10 Reasons why you shouldn't get a Pet Goldfish

I became a Goldfish Mum rather unexpectedly. My colleague and friend Sara decided to leave her job and flat in London and return to Spain. She asked me to adopt her two Goldfish Edwardo or Patrick, who suprisingly turned out to be Eduarda and Patrica. For two years both fish lived in a tiny Goldfish Bowl. I soon realised that this was torture for the little guys and wanted to do better. It was a steep learning curve. Within a couple of months I tried to learn everything I could about the hobby. I hope that this blog will make things easier for at least a few of you and will take away some of he growing pains.

If you don’t have a Goldfish, but are considering buying one, you might want to consider the following 10 reasons why you might not be ready for a Goldfish, things before you do:

Welcome to The Goldfish Aquarium

Welcome to the Goldfish Aquarium and the very first Post on this brand new Blog. If you have landed on this Blog you are probably looking for information to help you take care of your goldfish and are hoping to give it a long, healthy and fulfilled life.

Goldfish are still a much underappreciated pet and a lot of misinformation, rumours and myths are spread about them. Although illegal in some countries, to this day, goldfish can be won at a carnival and are sold as perfectly easy pets to keep in a fish bowl in most pet stores.

Contrary to common knowledge goldfish aren’t that easy to keep and actually have quite complex needs in order to thrive. The internet provides us with a wealth of information, but it is sometimes difficult to separate fact from fiction. It’s best to do all your research before buying your first goldfish.
But some of us unfortunately don’t have the luxury of that position – I certainly didn’t – and become goldfish parents rather unexpectedly. I was lucky and found the right people just in time to keep my goldfish happy and alive. But many people buy a goldfish without knowing how to acre for it, end up making a lot of mistakes, that can cost their pet its life.

I hope that this blog will become a one stop source of information for the new to veteran goldfish owner. I will help you set up your first goldfish aquarium, run you through the most important equipment, help you find your favourite breed from the huge variety out there. We will talk about goldfish anatomy and what signs of illness to watch out for. If your little friend gets sick, we will hopefully get him or her back on its fins. And we will of course have a lot of fun with this hobby along the way, whilst promoting the right and healthy way of taking care of goldfish.

If this is your first time on the blog, leave a comment down below. I would loved to know how you came to own goldfish. Was it a suprise, was it planned or are you planning to buy one and curretnly in the process of gathering information before  you do?
